Your smartphone is essentially made of highly organized, thinking sand. It starts with ordinary quartz sand, melted down at a blistering three thousand degrees to extract raw, pure silicon.

This liquid silicon is grown into a single, flawless crystal cylinder. We then slice this giant crystal with high-precision saws into ultra-thin circular wafers.

Finally, we use extreme ultraviolet light to project complex patterns onto these wafers. This prints billions of microscopic switches, or transistors, turning raw sand into a super-dense brain.
